In an alleged case of honour killing, a man opened fire at his sister and brother-in-law in Corporation colony on Panj Peer road of Ludhiana late on Saturday. His sister, after being shot thrice, died on the spot, but brother-in-law survived the attack.

Police said that the accused was unhappy over his sister’s love marriage. The accused – identified as Suraj Singh of Anurag Enclave – was arrested within hours of the gruesome incident. Police recovered an illegal 32 bore pistol and 21 bullets from his possession. At least 18 shells of bullets fired were also recovered from the spot.
Police said that his sister, 22-year-old Sandeep Kaur, died instantly, while her husband Ravi Kumar (25) was rushed to a hospital where his condition is stable.
Police said that since getting married in June this year against the wish of the woman’s family, the two were living at different locations due to fear. They had returned to Ludhiana only last week and were living at Ravi Kumar’s home. The accused arrived at their home on a two-wheeler. He was wearing a helmet. He first opened fire at Ravi Kumar who was standing outside. He received two bullet injuries. He then rushed inside. ADCP-3 Shubham Aggarwal said that after shooting Ravi Kumar, the accused (Suraj Singh) then barged into the house and opened fire at his sister Sandeep Kaur.
