Actor Deepika Padukone spoke about her stardom and success in a recent interview, and said that she’s just getting started. She also spoke about her marriage with Ranveer Singh, and how their collective star-power can yield bigger profits for them. Deepika and Ranveer are one of Bollywood’s most high-profile couples, and leveraging their popularity can be a lucrative proposition for brands.
In an interview with The Week, Deepika was asked if they charge ‘separate rates’ for ads and films together, and she said, “Yes, we do charge a premium for when we come together. I think we are positioned quite uniquely. In that, there’s usually an imbalance in a power couple, but not with us. Plus, both of us have started from scratch and it’s something we are very proud of. To achieve success on merit and on one’s own terms makes us special.”
But Deepika also revealed that she didn’t charge money for her special appearances in her husband’s films 83 and Cirkus. While Deepika was a co-producer on 83, in which she had an extended cameo as Kapil Dev’s wife Romi, she appeared for a special dance number alongside her husband in Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus. Unfortunately, neither film did well at the box office. But her latest extended cameo in Jawan seems to have done the trick. The film broke numerous box office records in its first week of release, and has made nearly Rs 350 crore in India so far.
Deepika recently become a global ambassador for the high fashion brand Louis Vuitton, which she said she initially thought was a ‘prank’. She added, “I was at Cannes as a jury member. I was driving past the promenade and to my right was this huge LV store with my face staring right back at me. That’s when I realised what had really happened. Everything i had manifested for what more we could do as Indians came true.”
