8888677771 | mPassport app reduced verification time for passport applicants to 2-3 days: Chandigarh police | Chandigarh News

The Chandigarh police Friday claimed that the police verification time for passport applications has been reduced to two-three days through mPassport app, which was introduced in Chandigarh on June 16.

Police said all passport verifications are received in 16 police stations from Regional Passport Office (RPO), Sector 34, which were approved digitally by verification officers (VOs), MHCs and the SHOs of the concerned police stations. Meanwhile, these verifications from Police Headquarters, Sector 9, within 2-3 days are forwarded to RPO Chandigarh for further necessary action.

“Our service delivery has improved significantly after the launch of mPassport app. The verification process is now faster even than the Tatkal service where applicants have to pay Rs 3,500 at RPO in Sector 34. Earlier, the verification process used to take 10 to 12 days as it was all manual and the daily pendency was about 800 to 900. At present, the pendency is merely 9 to 10,” DSP (CID) Ram Gopal, who looks after the passport verification branch, said.

As many as 13 ASIs, 41 VOs in all 16 police stations have been made available exclusively for the verification process. Thirty two smart cell phones were given to them for digital verification, the DSP added. “In view of this, the applicants were advised to be available at their given address for physical verification,” he further said.

Police said that a total 8,453 verification applications were received from RPO since June 16 and 8,236 were done and sent back to the Regional Passport Office (RPO), Sector 34, so far. According to an estimate, around 150 applications were received everyday at police headquarters, Sector 9, for the verification from RPO, Sector 34.

On June 16, ‘mPassport App’ fully online service to improve police verification time for passport related services was inaugurated by Chandigarh Administrator, Banwari Lal Purohit under the PSP (Passport Seva Project), of the Ministry of External Affairs for passport issuance.
