A man was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) after a court in Rajkot on Wednesday found him guilty of kidnapping and raping a minor girl in the district three years ago.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge A M Saikh pronounced Kailash Manvar guilty of kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old girl in October 2020.
The court convicted Manvar under sections 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc) and 376(2)(n) (raping a woman repeatedly) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 6 (for an aggravated penetrative act) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The court also fined the convict for Rs 50,000 and ruled that the youth shall serve three months of simple imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Manvar asked the woman to come out of her residence when her family members were asleep on October 3, 2020. He then kidnapped her and raped her thrice, the prosecution said.

After the girl’s father filed a complaint two days later, police arrested the accused and rescued the girl.
“During the course of the trial, the survivor and the complainant turned hostile. However, we brought on record the statement she had got recorded before a magistrate, reports of forensic analysis of the clothes of the survivor, and her medical reports which found traces of human semen on her clothes and private parts which proved that she had been raped,” Additional Public Prosecutor Kartikey Parekh said.
“The defence argued that she had eloped with the accused and that physical relation was consensual but we countered it by saying that as she was a minor and therefore her consent was inconsequential,” he added.
